Honey Mustard is a crowd favorite when it comes to dressings, with its delightful mix of sweet and tangy flavors that compliment a wide range of dishes. This easy 3-ingredient honey mustard is so simple, it’s almost a no-brainer!
Conventional Honey Mustard
When it comes to store bought options, thankfully there are better options these days than when I was growing up, but the unhealthy options are still very much a loud presence in the aisles of the modern shopper. For those who aren’t conscious consumers, they may opt for the “well-known” brands and end up eating a range of unhealthy ingredients.
This is the ingredient list from the Kraft website of their honey mustard (at the time of writing). I’ve highlighted some that I find particularly concerning.
VINEGAR, WATER, VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN AND/OR CANOLA OIL), SUGAR, HONEY, DIJON MUSTARD (WATER, MUSTARD SEED, VINEGAR, SALT, WHITE WINE, CITRIC ACID, TARTARIC ACID, FRUIT PECTIN, SUGAR, SPICES), MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SALT, EGG YOLKS, MUSTARD SEED, NATURAL FLAVOR, DRIED ONIONS, SPICES, BETA-CAROTENE (COLOR), SORBIC ACID AND CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PROTECT FLAVOR)
Here are just a few reasons why I would avoid these ingredients.
Soybean Oil – these are likely GMO soybeans and not organic, so a higher chance of pesticides
Canola Oil – the dangers of canola oil are now being understood more. It also contains GMOs and is highly refined, as well as bleached and deodorized.
Sugar – likely sprayed with pesticides and other harmful chemicals if it’s not organic.
Natural Flavor – this is an umbrella ingredient that can host a number of other ingredients and not disclose them because it’s “proprietary” information.
Keep It Simple
When it comes to healthy eating, you can create delicious flavors using simple whole foods and skip all of the harmful, processed ingredients. We love making food at home that’s nutrient dense, and what we’ve learned is that for most popular food items, with a little research and practice, you can make that same alternative with healthy ingredients!
We like to keep our ingredients list simple because it keeps our body in a place where it doesn’t have to deal with the stress of trying to detox a bunch of unnecessary and harmful ingredients. When the body is not in a stressed state, it can focus on healing, restoring and maintaining optimal health.
This recipe is a great example of that and is so easy that you can whip it up in 5 minutes! All you need is a:
- Bowl (we like to use our stainless steel bowl)
- Whisk
- Digital scale (not necessary, but helpful!)
How To Make 3-Ingredient Honey Mustard
I’m going to give you a recipe to make a family-sized batch of this dressing, but don’t worry, we will touch on how to make a single serving size, too, if you’re wanting to whip it up in a pinch.
The only ingredients you’ll need are:
- Stone Ground Mustard
- Plain Full-Fat Yogurt
- Honey
You could probably use low-fat yogurt, but I’ve never tried it so can’t vouch for the flavor.

- Weigh out 120g stone ground mustard
- Weigh out 100g of plain full-fat yogurt
- Weigh out 40-60g of honey. I prefer a less sweet and more tangy honey mustard, so I would opt for the 40g personally. I suggest starting at 40g then taste testing until you get to your desired sweetness! You can see the comparison of the two below!

- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together with a whisk.
- Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator
Isn’t that simple? It tastes just like a store bought honey mustard, if not better, in my opinion! It’s too easy to make at home, so save some dollars and skip all the unnecessary ingredients in the conventional stuff!
